Questions & answers
The things people ask.
Everything from “will I have to wait in all day?” to “what does NAPIT registered actually mean for me?” — in the order you'd likely ask them.
About Hobbs Electrical
01Who is Hobbs Electrical Group?
Hobbs Electrical Group Ltd is a Berkhamsted electrical firm run by Dan, based on Redbourn Road in Hemel Hempstead. We're NAPIT Part-P registered (No. 82220), our engineers hold the JIB Gold Card, and we work to 18th Edition BS 7671 — with over 25 years of combined electrical experience and a 5.0 rating across 33 Google reviews.
Do you cover both homes and businesses?
Yes. We carry out domestic and commercial work — from a homeowner's EICR or garden lighting to office fit-outs, retail, industrial, education and healthcare premises. The same registered firm and the same documented standard apply to both.
Do you use subcontractors?
No. Every job is carried out by Hobbs' own qualified team — we don't subcontract. The engineer who quotes the work is part of the team who delivers it, which is how the standard stays consistent from first fix to final test.
What area do you cover?
We're based in Hemel Hempstead and work across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Greater London — including Berkhamsted, Tring, St Albans, Wendover, Aylesbury and Chesham. If you're not sure whether you're in range, call and ask.
Booking & on the day
02How do I arrange a job?
Call the team on 01442 927057, email info@hobbselectricalgroup.co.uk, or use the contact form. Tell us what you need — a quote, an EICR, an EV charger, a fault — and we'll book a day that works around you.
Will I have to wait in all day?
No. We agree a day and a rough time when we book, and we turn up when we say we will. Our reviewers describe us as efficient and reliable — one caller had us on site within a few hours and back up and running in under half an hour.
Who actually comes to do the work?
One of Hobbs' own JIB Gold Card engineers — often Dan himself for smaller domestic work. Because we don't subcontract, whoever attends works to the same assessed standard, with the same certification at the end.
How quickly can you attend?
For urgent problems, calling is always fastest — customers have had us attend within a few hours when we're in the area. For planned work such as an EICR, a rewire or a garden lighting scheme, we'll agree a date that suits you.
What are your hours?
We work Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, and are closed at weekends.
Credentials & standards
03What does NAPIT Part-P registered actually mean for me?
NAPIT is a government-authorised competent-person scheme. Being registered (No. 82220) means we're assessed against the national safety standard, BS 7671, and can self-certify notifiable work in your home to Building Regulations Part P — so you don't pay a separate building-control inspection fee. The registration number is verifiable.
What is the JIB Gold Card?
The JIB Gold Card is the electrical industry's benchmark of a fully qualified, competent electrician — it confirms recognised qualifications, assessed on-site competence and up-to-date health & safety. It's issued independently, so it isn't something a firm can award itself. All our engineers hold it.
What is BS 7671, 18th Edition?
BS 7671 is the British Standard for electrical installations — the national wiring regulations your certificate is measured against. The 18th Edition is the current version, and everything we install is designed and tested to it.
Is your work insured and certified?
Yes. Depending on the job you'll receive a minor works certificate, an installation certificate, or an EICR — your proof the work meets current regulations. The full documentation is handed over on completion for you to keep.
Services & certificates
04Do you carry out EICRs for landlords and homeowners?
Yes. We carry out Electrical Installation Condition Reports to BS 7671 for landlords meeting their legal obligations, homeowners who want certainty, and commercial premises — and we explain any findings clearly rather than leaving you with a page of codes.
Can you install an EV charger, and is there a grant?
Yes — our engineers are City & Guilds 2919-01 qualified for EV charging. We handle home, workplace and fleet charge points from survey through to certification, and we'll advise on OZEV grant eligibility where it applies to your situation.
What is bespoke garden lighting?
We design outdoor lighting around your garden and specify it with premium Hunza and In-lite products — the marine-grade and low-voltage fittings chosen for longevity outdoors. Path, bollard, spike and wall lighting, installed and weatherproofed to last.
Can you upgrade my consumer unit or add new circuits?
Yes. New dedicated circuits, consumer unit and fuse-board upgrades, extra sockets and outdoor power are all part of what we do — installed to current regulations and, where notifiable, self-certified under Part P through our NAPIT registration.
Quotes, documentation & getting in touch
05What documentation will I receive?
Where the work is notifiable or requires certification, you'll receive the relevant certificate — minor works, installation, or an EICR — handed over on completion. This is the traceable paper trail we build every job around.
How do I get a quote?
Send us the details — call 01442 927057, email, or use the contact form. Clear communication and a clear quote before any work begins is something our customers highlight, and it's how every job starts.
How quickly will you get back to me?
We aim to respond to enquiries as quickly as we can during working hours (Mon–Fri, 8am–5pm). For anything urgent, calling is always fastest.
